Place Wedding in Kauai Part II: GoProing Our Way Through Kauai

July 16, 2014

The day before we left for our Kauai Wedding/Vaycay it was my 36th birthday. As a gift Brian bought me a handy little GoPro. See it on my head in the above photo;-) Let me just say it turned out to be a tool that became second in necessity only to my wedding dress. I got shots of all the excursions we went on. Then on the 14 hour ride back home I worked on editing the videos.
Some people relax at the beach resort on their Hawaii vaycay. I think I actually lost weight on our Hawaii vaycay. We hiked 8-miles roundtrip on the Kalalau trail to Hanakapaiai Beach and then onto Hanakapaiai Falls. And it wasn't an easy 8 miles. It was all uphill, downhill, through raging streams, trampsing through slippery mud and scaling wet rocks. Check it out below. I was totally wiped by the end but it was definitely worth it! Wouldn't trade it for mixed drinks at the pool.....ever.
Whenever we would pass another couple with a GoPro they would smile and shout "GOPRO"! Then fist bump the air. I was feeling like a part of this cool little club sharing this solidarity while being amazing and ambitious.

We also kayaked the Wailua River to Secret Falls. Also quite muddy and adventurous. My GoPro died right before we made it to the falls (my fault because I didn't charge it the night before). I had just enough battery to get a few seconds of the falls and that was it. I used my camera phone on the way back to get a shot of me finding a rope swing along the river and jumping off.
Stay tuned for more photos and videos of our amazing wedding/vaycay.

5 Minute Charms

June 30, 2014

\dec·o·den\ : is the art of decorating anything with trinkets, and "the more the merrier" is the name of the game in designing an over the top look in this 3D collage technique. Use Mod Podge Collage Clay with Mod Melts, trinkets, buttons, rhinestones, and anything else you can think of!
What little girl doesn't like charms? I know I loved them as a kid? You remember the little plastic ones on the colorful plastic chain necklace. They were GREAT! Recently, I started a little tradition at Christmas time. I began giving them charms as advent calendar gifts. Usually the charm would signify something- a vacation we took, a talent, a hobby, an inside joke. I thought it was the most clever thing. Little did I realize at the time but charms....are no cheap ticket!!
All told, each of the necklaces I bought the girls probably totaled $100+ each. I bought some charms from craft stores, some from online sites and each were about $1.50-$7 a piece!! Times 25 days! Times 2 girls! Ouch!! But I found this neat little thing from Modpodge called Mod Melts and Mod Molds. Basically using a simple hot glue gun you can make your own charms!! The molds are made of durable, easy to use silicone. And it's really great because you can make them together which also gives more meaning to the charm.

Lily and Molly both love Monster High. This Mod Mold makes the perfect charm for that.
See some of the Mod Molds below! They also have Collage Clay- lightweight whipped clay great to use for Decoden, 3D Collage, Assemblage Arts, 3D Stenciling and more. Available in two trend right colors, Vanilla White and Strawberry Pink. Note. *Collage Clay is not recommended for children ages 12 and under, and the product is not edible. Small parts are a choking hazard for children. Decorate with Podgeable Glitters and Collage Drizzle Paint. Podgeable Glitters Sparkle projects without the mess or waste - package makes it possible to ‘pouf’ the exact amount needed. Collage Drizzle Paint adds extra drama and dimension to designs
Here's a tutorial video for using Collage Clay.

Step 1: Using the High Temp Mod Melts (in either gold, silver, orange, green, pink or yellow) fill in the Mod Mold of your choice. Scrap away excess melt with the straight edge of a knife.

Step 2: Let dry for 10 minutes then pull out of mold.

Step 3: If you're making it into a necklace, hot glue a jump ring on the back.

Step 5: Paint with either Collage Paint or Podgeable Glitters.

Enter to win a super a Mod Podge Decoden Dream Collection for yourself!!

28 Days of Freedom: Going to Hawaii in 3 Days!!

#SummerofSmooth #VeetSmooth

Guess where I'll be in three days? HAWAII!!!! Gah! I'm so psyched! I bought a billion bikinis, rompers and short beach coverups! You know what that means. Got to get those beach bikini legs so I'm not covering up when I should be getting a nice tan.

Before I go I tried Veet Ready-to-Use Wax Strips Hair Remover, Legs & Body.
Now when I go to Hawaii my suitcase can be an ounce lighter because I'll be leaving my razor at home. My nicely waxed legs should last all July;-) So I can bike down the Waimea Canyon in shortie shorts, walk along the warm sand at Tunnels Beach in a coverup or jump into Queen's Bath in a bikini without having to worry if people are seeing stubble. Just smoothly silky beach-ready legs!

First I rubbed one of the strips to heat it up.

With all this rain we've been having lately I feel like putting a little sunshine in my wardrobe. It feels amazing to step out into a warm summer day with a bright yellow dress. Do you have any little yellow numbers just begging to be brought out of the closet yet? Don't let this moment go to waste! Bring 'em out into the sun!

It doesn't have to be a dress. A pair of shoes, a solid sunny bathing suit, a white and yellow purse can brighten up a dull outfit and make it summer worthy.
Pair that bright color in your clothes with that bright feeling on your skin with Caress® Fresh Collection, featured above– Juicy Escape™. The citrus and floral scents (lily and grapefruit) paired with a bright summer outfit gives you a happy fresh feeling.  Makes me feel like I'm at the beach already!
The Caress® Fresh collection wraps your skin in vibrant scents and  hydrating lather, leaving it revitalized and delicately scented. Try the new Caress® Fresh Collection and revitalize your skin like never before.

The Beach Dress. Where Skexy is Acceptable.

June 13, 2014

We're planning on going to Kauai in three weeks! Gah! And I've been so preoccupied with other things I haven't even given two thoughts to what I'm going to wear. Today I was looking for beachy summer dresses and I realized that what I like to wear on the beach and what I'd wear in real life are two TOTALLY different things. One might even use the word "skexy" (were skanky and sexy meet for some cocktails) to describe some of the dresses I've been eyeing.

Obviously the beach is a more acceptable place to show some skin. A bikini is basically a bra and underwear so anything more than that seems almost modest. So when I look at dresses like this I think "LOVE!" But honestly where else am I going to be able to pull that off? Going to the grocery store with my four kids? Better make a bunch of beach trips to justify getting it;-)
They're typically short. Like just covering your bum, short. Or totally backless or mostly frontless. They're usually flowy and made of see through material. All of these things sound (except the flowy) bad but on the beach I think they're lovely.
Are you planning a trip to the beach anytime this summer? Will you be adding a few skexy dresses for the sand?

Fun Things To Do This Summer (Get Your Summer On): Kayaking

June 12, 2014

I know a lot of you might look at this and think "not for me" or "no room for a kayak" or "too expensive" or "too fatiguing". Well, I'm here to tell you, you're probably wrong on all accounts!

Let me address each issue one by one. Firstly! "Not for me...."
Do you like being outdoors in the summer? Do you like spending time with friends? Do you like NOT spending a fortune to do something with your kids? If you answered no to any of these questions then you're right, maybe kayaking isn't for you. But if you answered yes then maybe you might want to give kayaking a second look.

Cascading Mussels Necklace DIY

June 6, 2014

This would be so easy to DIY!! Just spray mussel shells with silver paint. You could buy them at the grocery store or use ones you found on the beach. You would have to drill a tiny hole in the top and attach with a single chain on each. But it would certainly be a discussion piece if you wore to an outing with friends. Thrift Day Giveaway: First Come First Serve

June 5, 2014

I went to the thrift store yesterday and found this adorable vintage dress.

If anyone would like it please just leave me a comment below. First come first serve! Belt NOT included. The waist is very forgiving since it cinches with a belt. I'd say it would fit 2-10. I love how the sleeves are 3/4th and cuffed. Very lovely spring dress. I'm only 5'1 so the length is also pretty decent as well.

I'd like to keep doing these thrift day giveaways so come back for more. First come first serve;-)

Fun Things To Do This Summer (Get Your Summer On): Drive Ins

June 3, 2014

Periodically I'd like to post all the fun things I plan on doing this summer. I'm calling it my "Get Your Summer On Series". One of the first things that come to mind when I think of summer are drive ins! I bet a lot of you have never even been to a drive in. It's such a hidden summer gem. And I think it's so much more than just watching a movie or make out spot for teens.

A lot of families make an evening of it. They get there several hours before the movie starts (at dusk) and bring barbecues, lawn chairs and blankets. We don't spend all evening at our local drive-in but I do try to make it extra special. We usually get there about 45 minutes early. Sometimes earlier if it's a popular Saturday showing because our drive-in has been known to sell out long before a popular movie begins. We learned that out the hard way:-( We spend time getting cozy, hanging out.

Here's my minivan set up. I must humbly's pretty awesome! For those of you with trucks or have minivans where the middle row can also sink into the floor, you can also use an air mattress to cushion the bottom.
-First, I fold the rear bench seat into the floor. If your rear seats don't sink into the floor then I recommend either leaving them at home or set it in front of your van's back hatch as use as another place to sit.
-Then I flip the middle captain chairs around to face the back.

Aqua Sparkle Your Wardrobe

June 2, 2014

What better way to soak up all this warm weather with a little turquoise in your wardrobe. Nothing says summer like those vibrant aqua shades. The moment I saw these high heeled wedges I knew they'd be getting a lot of wear during these hot months. Turquoise is an excellent contrast to the hot yellows of summer.
You want to feel turquoise fresh on your skin as well as your clothes. Pair your new blue dress with the new Caress® Fresh Collection, featured above– Aqua Sparkle™. The scent reminds me of the fresh flower fragrances that appear in these warm summer months. Have any of you had the pleasure of enjoying the spring peonies? Proof that all the warm weather has been working its magic. Why not celebrate with a little floral fragrance next to your skin?

The Caress® Fresh collection wraps your skin in vibrant scents and  hydrating lather, leaving it revitalized and delicately scented. Try the new Caress® Fresh Collection and revitalize your skin like never before.

Bandage Bathing Suits: Yay or Nay?

May 29, 2014

I'm looking for bathing suits for my upcoming trip to Kauai! And a friend of mine turned me on to this website: Rosegal. I think it's one of those websites that copies a look (often taking the photos from other companies) and recreates the look and sells it for cheap, like a lot of the wedding dress sites you may have seen recently. So buy what you do with a grain of salt. It looks like you have to pay shipping on any returns. Boo! But the prices are really cheap so if you can get something that is identical to the name brand it may be worth it. Some items have reviews at the bottom so look for that. All that to say I'm really digging the whole bandage bathing suit trend this year. It's very Leeloo from Fifth Element.
I can totally see bandage bathing suits NOT being for everyone! Imagine the tan lines alone;-P Yet still, I don't know what it is, maybe my love of sci-fi, but I would like to own a few of these suits. Click on the picture to be taken to where you can purchase on the Rosegal site. What do you think? Yay or Nay?
